The American Survivalist Ferro Rod is 5 inches long and 1/2 inch thick, rated for over 15,000 strikes. The hardened steel striker has a sharp edge that bites into the ferrocerium and peels off hot 3,000-degree sparks. AMERICAN SURVIVALIST is engraved into the face. The handle is paracord, hand-tied around the rod, with an emergency whistle clipped to the lanyard. Everything stays together. Drop the kit in a pocket, a pack, a vehicle kit, or a bug-out bag and forget about it until you need it.
Use it for camping, bushcraft, hunting, hiking, emergency preparedness, or just learning the old way to light a fire. The sparks are hot enough to ignite tinder, char cloth, dry grass, birch bark, fatwood, cotton balls, and jute twine. It works in the rain, in the wind, at altitude where butane lighters fail, and after it's been submerged in water. Pat it dry first.
